“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? (Luke 6:46 ESV)
Jesus asks a penetrating question. You cannot call him Lord if you disregard his commands. It is easy to justify ourselves to ourselves. We can excuse our sins and our faults in our hearts to our own satisfaction. We cannot justify ourselves to Jesus Christ. He sees our hearts and knows all things. His Spirit penetrates our consciences and asks the direct, probing question: “Why do you disobey?” We may cover our sins from others and even from ourselves, but we cannot hide from God.
Listen to the penetrating question of the Holy Spirit. Confess your disobedience and repent before the Heavenly Father. Choose today to obey the instructions of your Lord. Read the Bible, pray, and seek to please God. A disciple must be obedient to his or her teacher; otherwise he or she is not a disciple at all.
