Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22 ESV).
What is the most expensive thing you own? Sometimes the cost of an item causes us to treasure that item. People usually take care of the things that cost the most money (homes, cars, appliances, electronics, etc.) and mistreat the things for which they paid little. We often value what we work hard to earn, and occasionally do not value what is given to us.
The cost of forgiveness is immeasurable. Salvation comes at great expense to the savior; the one saved pays nothing. It cost Jesus his blood. He became the sacrifice whose death atoned for our sins. His death brought us justification before God (Romans 5:9). “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV). Without the shedding of Christ’s blood, there could be no forgiveness and no salvation (Heb. 9:22). Our salvation cost Jesus His life.
If you are a saved child of God, your salvation cost you nothing. However, it should be worth everything to you. This is the reason you are called to surrender yourself to Christ. He held nothing back for you and invites you to hold nothing back as you follow Him. Let go and let God work in your life. Take up your cross and follow Jesus. Your salvation was expensive; how much do you value it?
