And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.” (Mark 1:7 ESV)
Everyone has a message. Every person’s life tells a story. Every person has a purpose. The message which John the Baptist preached was that a mighty king was coming. He called people to repent and to receive forgiveness (Mark 1:4). He understood his mission – his purpose in life – and lived for that purpose. Later, when Jesus appeared and began his ministry, John noted that Jesus “must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30 ESV). He knew his purpose and his message.
Satisfaction – that is, real, lasting fulfillment and meaning – can be found only in finding one’s purpose in life. As Pastor Ray has put it, “you are born with a purpose and you are born again to find that purpose.” Trying to be what you were not created to be results in dissatisfaction and frustration. Following God’s plan for your life brings meaning and satisfaction.
You, like John the Baptist, have a message to preach. You were created in the image of God and called to build his kingdom. For that reason, God gave you talents and gifts to use for his glory.
What message does your life teach? What gifts have you been given? Are you living on purpose?
